I had a wonderful experience teaching commercial mediation theory and skills to Mongolian mediators, lawyers, and judges for four days in November 2024. The course, sponsored by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and implemented by the International Development Law Office, was part of Mongolia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its judicial, legal, and commercial systems.
I also made a presentation about mediation to the Mongolian Bar Association and met for wide-ranging discussion of ADR with the Minister of Justice and Home Affairs and later with other officials in his ministry.
Several of the participants who successfully completed the training will now be presenting the course to others in late April. I will participate by Zoom. Later in the Spring, I will be presenting an online course on how to conduct mediations online.
My local counterpart, Munkh Erdene Tsend-Ochir of the Mongolian court, (top left photo) was fantastic to work with and continues to be involved in the project.
And finally, my hosts from the IDLO office ensured that I experienced some of the fantastic Mongolian culture.
